An Honest Read

Should You Sponsor Something?

Sponsorship is a great buy for some businesses and a feel-good money pit for others. Here is the honest split.

Sponsoring Is Right If

  • Your business runs on local trust: trades, dentists, restaurants, agents
  • Your customers are the families in the stands
  • You’re playing a long game and can stay for seasons, not weekends
  • You’ll actually show up: presence is what people remember

Skip It If

  • You need countable leads this month: that is Google and Meta
  • Your customers live outside the community you’d sponsor
  • You expect the banner to ring the phone by itself
  • The package has no signage, no reads, no presence: that’s a donation

Questions

Sponsorship Questions, Answered Straight.

How much does a sponsorship cost in Connecticut?

A youth team season runs $300 to $600 statewide, jerseys and banner included. 5K and road race sponsorships start around $250, town festival booths around $500, and fair packages around $1,000. Minor league team packages typically start around $2,500 a season, and the marquee tier, like the Travelers Championship, runs five figures and up.

What do I actually get for the money?

It varies wildly, which is the problem with a handshake market. A typical package includes signage or jerseys, PA announcements or program listings, booth space and some tickets. Always ask for the full inventory in writing before you pay: what is printed, what is announced, where the logo goes and for how long. Getting that list in writing is exactly what we do.

Is sponsorship worth it compared to regular advertising?

As a trust play, yes: sponsorship marketing returns about $4.50 per dollar on average, and 60% of consumers feel more positive about a business after attending an event it sponsored. Where it is weak is attribution: nobody fills out a form because of a banner. Pair it with one trackable channel and let each do its job.

What should a small business sponsor first?

Whatever your customers actually attend. Family services and trades do best on youth sports, where over 100,000 Connecticut kids play high school athletics every year and parents see the same banner all season. Regional brands fit the home teams: the Yard Goats drew 417,054 fans in their record season. Seasonal retail belongs at the fairs.

When do I need to commit?

Earlier than you think. Youth leagues lock sponsors before spring and fall registration. Fair booths sell out months ahead: the Durham Fair runs the last full weekend of September and fills well before summer ends. Minor league packages are best bought before opening day, when the good signage is still available.

Can I sponsor something with $300?

Yes, and it may be the highest-goodwill $300 in Connecticut advertising. One youth team season puts your name on jerseys and a fence banner in front of every family in the program, all season long. If a season is sold out, a 5K or a single town event gets you on the shirt or the banner for about the same money.
